Voltage optimisation is a very effective way of reducing your energy consumption. Installing a unit is relatively straightforward and the savings are instant.
EMS have installed their Powerstar® system in several textile companies and have saved companies up to 23% on their electricity consumption.
BATC are so impressed with the Powerstar® that there is now one installed at our offices and our electricity consumption has fallen by 16%.
The Powerstar® system operates by making small reductions in voltage which are matched to the needs of the site. The Powerstar® unit can be applied to main in coming supplies, sub distribution boards or even individual machines.
Electricity supply companies must supply electricity between pre defined limits. In the EU this level is 230V +10% -6% (216V to 252V). All equipment sold within the EU must be capable of operating within these limits. To maintain this under all loadings the supply companies often supply at even higher levels close to the 252 V.
Powerstar® reduces the voltage to within the EU limits to match the requirements of the site. Relatively small reductions in voltage can make substantial energy savings e.g. a 4 per cent reduction in voltage can lead to savings well in excess of 9 per cent in energy without detriment to plant operations. The Powerstar® unit is fitted with PLC based monitoring showing power, terminal voltage, and percentage saving.
Powerstar® will also help in the reduction in harmonics on systems where items of plant are controlled using high speed electronic switching devices, such as Inverters and DC speed control units.
EMS also have a range of other products including Lightstar which has been used in textile sites and Airstar, which has also been used in our industry.
